Question: What are Some Common Causes of Vibration of Carbon Steel Line 20 Gas Pipeline?

Answer:

Check / consider the following:

  • Upper pressure range and/or smaller pipe diameters prompt me to investigate the possibility that gas reaches critical flow somewhere downstream inside the pipe. When gas reaches a critical flow rate, sonic shocks (causing vibration) are expected. In fact, this is one of the main means by which extra pressure is lost in the pipe.
  • If the source is a compressor, look out for pumping.
  • If the source is a tower, look at the pressure cycling in the tower
  • Look at the critical flow rate through any control valve that may be in the pipeline.
Question: Although there are many tests available to detect leaks on vessels, is there technology available to quantify the leak or measure the flow through the leak?

Answer:

The RheoVac Air Leak Monitor from Intek, Inc. in Westerville, Ohio, is a reliable meter that shows the actual rate of air leakage. It also gives you extraction performance and vacuum quality readings.
